shrinking in a corner,
pressed into the wall;
do they know i’m present,
am i here at all?
is there a written rule book,
that tells you how to be—
all the right things to talk about—
that everyone has but me?
slowly i am withering—
a flowered deprived of sun;
longing to belong to—
somewhere or someone.

when we feel like we don’t fit societies standards of beauty, we try to shrink ourselves, to the point where we feel invisible. and while trying to diminish our physical presence, we end up stifling our minds and souls. for me, personal style has been an integral component of how i express myself, my creativity and my mood. for many years i shut down that creative muscle because i felt shunned by a community that only seemed to glorify a specific make and model. like if i didn’t look like the package they were selling, i didn’t deserve to be part of it. • then a good friend (and damn good human) told me this last year: ‘rag your style and what you wear are different things. aside from some caftans (which is your style) you basically wear clothes to mask/cover up. you gotta work that sh*t!’ it was simple. she was right. but in case any of you out there don’t have that friend, i’ll be it for you. i know it’s hard bc the fashion industry still does not make that easy for any of us. #onesizedoesnotfitall but don’t be afraid to take up space in this world. let your colors shine! #changethenarrative

10x10, 12x12, 20x20 archival quality, Giclée art print (not framed). Printed full bleed with no border.
